Reports
Post-placement reports are a vital and critical link between the United States and various sending countries around the world. These reports help verify the validity of inter-country adoption as a viable form of child welfare. They help dispel myths and rumors that children are adopted for anything other than the purpose of parents building permanent, loving homes. Click here to read more about the impact of post-placement reports on the ability for waiting children to be united with adoptive families.

Finalization/Recognition/Re-Recognition
Please contact your home study office and/or social worker to determine the requirements for your state of residence. Adoptive families whose children enter under guardianship or an IR-4 visa will be required to complete this step. If a child enters under an IR-3 visa, this step is not required, however, MAPS recommends that families complete this step. Some of the benefits include the ability for adoptees to obtain a U.S. birth certificate and/or obtain U.S. Citizenship, depending on their immigration status. For more information regarding the importance of completing this procedure, please see the articles below:

Birth Parent Searches
MAPS can assist with birth parent searches on a limited basis. We will make every effort to assist or direct you to other professional resources as each situation dictates.
Obtaining Copies of Adoption Records
Adoptive parents or adoptees age 18 or older can request copies of their adoption records. Once an adoptive family has completed their post placement obligations, files are sent to a professional offsite records management company for lifetime storage. When a request is made after the transfer has occurred, an information request form must be completed and a fee for record retrieval will apply. The cost for 3-4 day delivery is $50 and the cost for 1-2 day delivery is $100. Please contact the Post Placement Coordinator
below for more information.
