StepUP! Family Resources
At StepUP! Family Resources, we’re all about keeping parents and children together and building stronger, more secure families. StepUP! clients work hard to rise above the challenges that stand in the way of safe and stable lives for their children and themselves. Our full spectrum of services provides the support and resources to move from homelessness to stability and self-sufficiency.
If you would like to support StepUP!, please read about our benefit dinner and auction on June 17.
StepUP! Shelters
We provide temporary family shelter in Bangor and Portland. In Portland, we accept women and girls who are pregnant and parenting and at least 18 years old or emancipated. In Bangor, we also accept fathers and their children.
Our residents are homeless, and the result is loss of self-reliance, stability and permanency. All share the common objective of gaining control of their families’ futures and agree to individualized plans to learn life, parenting and employment skills. The goal is to succeed as a parent, employee and functioning member of the community, free from government assistance.
Transitional Living Housing
Our transitional living apartments in Portland and Houlton provide stable, longer term housing for women and children. Women must be:
- at least 18 years old
- pregnant or parenting
- homeless or at risk of homelessness
To achieve self-sufficiency, our transitional living clients must work toward securing permanent housing; pursue career and educational goals; and develop parenting, financial and household management skills. To help achieve these goals, case managers provide support and make referrals for counseling, substance abuse services and other community resources as needed.
Targeted Case Management
Our outreach to homeless pregnant women, mothers and fathers goes beyond housing. To help our clients achieve goals, our targeted case managers:
- offer statewide assessment and re-assessment services to identify needs
- develop individual plans of care
- make referrals to medical, social, educational providers and other community services
- monitor clients’ progress toward goals
- provide follow up to ensure continued effectiveness of service plans
